What is the CPP?

The Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) provides financial support during your mandatory placement periods. Eligible students receive $331.65 per week (2025 rate) to help manage living costs while completing required placements in nursing, teaching, midwifery, or social work.

  • CPP payments are taxable income
  • You must declare it to the ATO
  • CPP may affect Centrelink payments
  • You must declare it to Services Australia
  • You must return payments for uncompleted placements
  • You must notify us of any changes to your eligibility

The Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) is available to all domestic students enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place and completing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing, midwifery, teaching or social work.

  • To apply through this site, you must be enrolled at a participating university
  • To receive the CPP, you must be undertaking a full-time placement (min. 30 hours per week)
  • You must also receive a Commonwealth Income Support Payment (e.g., Austudy, Youth Allowance)
  • Or you must demonstrate you've worked more than 15 hours per week 
    (60+ hours total) during a continuous 4-week period in your recent study term
  • You cannot earn more than $1,500 per week gross ($6,000 over 4 weeks) during that same period

Create an account and submit your application through the portal on this website. You will be asked to provide supporting documentation of your eligibility and to declare that the information you have provided is accurate and correct.

APPROVAL

Your application will be reviewed, and verification checks will be conducted to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria. Once approved, you will receive an email with details of your CPP and further instructions.

Payment Icon

PAYMENT

Through your CPP Student Portal, you will be asked to provide your bank account details, which will be securely held with our payment provider. Approved payments will be paid directly to your nominated bank account. Please note, payments will only apply from 1 July 2025 onwards and not before.
